TEXT: REVELATION 6:1-6
Red sky at night sailors delight; red sky in the morning sailors take warning………. HELLO WELCOME………. Another version of this phrase says, “Red sky at night, shepherd’s delight. Red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning.” Jesus Christ referred to this old adage in Matthew 16 when He gave a stern warning to the Pharisees and Sadducees who came asking Him to show them a sign from heaven. He said, “When it is evening you say, it will be fair weather, for the sky is red; and in the morning it will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening. Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” After saying this He walked away. This tells us that the return of Jesus Christ will be without any sign, it will be very sudden, and without notice! The book of Corinthians tell us it will be in a moment, in the blink of an eye. In another place scripture says it will be as swift as the flash of a lightning bolt from the East to the West.
WHAT TIME IS IT? Some of you are looking at your clock! No I’m not talking about the clock time? I’m talking about ‘where are we on God’s calendar for the world, and the return of Jesus Christ His Son?’ Man’s days are numbered by the Lord, what number are you on presently? Are you at the beginning of your days, or in the middle? Or perhaps like the speaker, you are quite near the end? What would you do if you knew that you had precisely one week left on this Earth, if you had 7 days left to live? The speaker has thought about this! He would reserve the evenings for visiting as many family members as possible, video calling those that are off the island, saying his goodbyes. During the day he would go from the Western end of the island to the Eastern end carrying tracts, pamphlets, Bibles to as many as he possibly can, while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He would end everyday with intense worship and prayer! And he would let the time run out on him in this way. It’s a great plan, and it would be so wonderful to know how much time we have left. But, we do not know, and ought to live every day as if it is our last. What would you do? How would you spend your final 168 hours on Earth?
If one browsed through the book of Revelation, stopping at chapter 6:3-4 he might discover that it seems to describe the times we are living in today. Here the word of God says, “When he opened the second seal I heard the second living creature say, ‘Come!’ And out came another horse, bright red. It’s rider was permitted to take peace from the Earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.” The red horse is symbolic of war and bloodshed. This scene is eerily similar to what we are seeing today. A time of mass killings. Shooters with automatic rifles have been attacking schools, shopping malls, Church gatherings and outdoor events, spraying the crowd with bullets. This is a time of war and rumors of War. People are even weaponizing their automobiles and driving into large crowds.
In the very next scene (verses 5&6) we see the third seal being broken, the Apostle John says that he saw a black horse, which symbolizes famine. The text says, “And he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand.” This speaks of a time of scarcity in the earth. This scripture foretells food shortages in which a quart of wheat will cost a day’s pay, and 3 quarts of barley will cost a day’s pay. The New Living translation brings it home to our understanding by saying, a loaf of bread will cost a day’s pay, which at a minimum wage rate of $5.00 per hour is about $40.00 just for one loaf of bread. As the war between Russia and Ukraine rages on it is drawing us closer and closer to this time when a loaf of bread will cost a day’s labor. Russia and Ukraine together are among the top three producers of wheat and corn in the entire world. Not only has the shipping and delivery of this year’s harvest, been severely hampered, but also next years harvest will be very limited because farmers are being prevented from planting it.
What time is it? At least two crazy, murderous world leaders have threatened to unleash nuclear bombs on the Western world. Now we are faced with threats of nuclear war! Nine countries have nuclear weapons today, and one other nation is very close to having nuclear arsenal. The leaders of half of these countries are totally unpredictable! We already have an idea of the devastation that would be caused by a nuclear bomb because of two back to back incidents in 1945. Scientists say that today’s nuclear bombs are far more powerful, and would cause more devastation than the bombs unleashed by the US upon Japan in 1945. These bombs hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two Japanese cities. Some 200,000 people died in the two blasts, which were just three days apart. For many of them death was not instant. There were reports of people’s skin falling off them while they were still alive. It was recorded that 90% of the physicians and nurses died or were injured by the blasts. Half of the hospitals were rendered nonfunctional. Most victims died without any medical care. First responders who went to the cities to help them, also died from the radiation. After the bombing many people developed leukemia, thyroid cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and other cancers. 70 years later survivors are still feeling the effects of the radiation!
These 9 nations will not be convinced to get rid of their nuclear weapons. The fear of nuclear bombs has become so great and so real that many have advocated a one world government as the only solution! In a one world order, all the nuclear bombs would be controlled by one leader. Some think that this may be the only way to make the rest of the world safer, since there is no way to get these nations to give up their nuclear bombs. A one world order is coming, no doubt about it. The book of Revelation prophesies it, but it will not come under a democratic leader. It will come first under the leadership of the Antichrist and the false prophet. Afterwards it will come with theocracy during the millennial reign of Jesus Christ. However the Antichrist and the false prophet will come first, and they will be the epitome of evil! Sooner or later we will have a nuclear war, and it will be devastating!
Thanks to covid-19 almost every child now has a cell phone or a tablet or a computer, or they have access to one. It is the most dangerous time for our children in the history of the entire world. There is nothing more compelling than social media, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, tiktok, YouTube, twitch, Pinterest, crowdly, reachMe, shareMe, these are just some of the social media networks. Much of what is on social media is bad company for our children, and for adults. 1Corinthians 15:33 says, “Do not be deceived, evil company corrupts good habits.” Another way to say it, “Wicked friends lead to evil ends!” Many of our children are keeping bad company on their cell phones and tablets, and parents are not even aware of the dangers they face.
In conclusion! Do you know why you have been brought here to the Earth? Do you have a good understanding of your purpose? Do you know what God wants you to be, and to do? How close are you to being what God wants you to be? Are you close enough that if Jesus Christ should come today, you would be able to go with Him? Do you even want to go?
I leave you with this final thought, which is very important to the precipice of time upon which we now stand. When two people are not getting along, and cannot resolve their differences, either one of them, or neither of them will be able to fit into the body of Christ. They will not both be able to make it into that cohesive group! I assure you! You see the Church of the Living God will be a humongous, harmonious, unified, peace loving body of believers in Christ Jesus acting as one. They will be called the B ody of Christ. T will be of one mind and one heart, one soul, and one Spirit. here will be no sore or cancer in that body.
